Beginning and end of coverage

Each coverage has different rules regarding the start and end dates.

Coverage Effective date

Emergency Medical Care and Emergency Medical Care in Canada

Accidental Death or Dismemberment

Baggage

Trip Interruption

Coverage becomes effective on the latest of the following dates:

  • The contract start date indicated on the insurance certificate
  • The departure date of the trip
Trip Cancellation and Interruption
  • When a payment has been made, coverage becomes effective on the date the contract is purchased.
  • When the purchase date of the contract is earlier than that of a prepayment, coverage becomes effective on the date of the first payment for this trip.
  • Under the Multi-Trip Annual plan, coverage becomes effective on the date the contract is purchased when the first payment has already been made for a given trip. For any trip booked after the contract purchase date, coverage becomes effective on the date of the first payment for that trip.

Termination date

The termination date of the coverage corresponds to the contract end date indicated on the insurance certificate.

If your client’s return takes place before the contract end date, the termination date becomes the return date of the trip, whether the return is scheduled or premature (with the exception of the Trip break).

For Emergency Medical Care in Canada, leaving the country during the period of coverage renders the coverage invalid in its entirety.
