About the coverage
Emergency Medical Care coverage protects your clients from the financial implications that may arise from medical services or care they receive during their trip.
What is covered
Your clients are covered for the usual and reasonable costs of eligible treatments declared urgent and necessary to stabilize the medical condition. Each insured person is covered up to a maximum of $5,000,000 per trip.
Your clients are covered in the event of a medical emergency resulting from an accident or an illness that occurs during the trip.
Benefits
The following benefits are included with Emergency Medical Care coverage. Refer to the policy for the full detail of each benefit.
- Hospitalization, medical and paramedical expenses, including medical devices and incidental expenses
- Transportation costs, including ambulance services and repatriation to the province of residence
- Subsistence allowance up to $3,000 per person
- Medical follow-up in Canada
Sales rules and other important information
Eligibility and stability requirements
Clients 55 and over must meet the eligibility requirements in order to purchase Emergency Medical Care coverage. Click here for more information about eligibility requirements.
To be covered, pre-existing medical conditions must be stable for the following period:
- Clients 54 and under: 3 months before the departure date
- Clients 55 and over: 6 months before the departure date.
Clients can reduce the required stability period from 6 to 3 months when they fill out a health declaration and purchase the Option: Reduced Stability Period. Click here for more information about stability requirements.
Optional deductible
A deductible is the portion of the eligible costs that will be charged to the client in the event of a claim. It can be added to Emergency Medical Care coverage in all our travel insurance plans to reduce the insurance premium.

The deductible amount is chosen by the client and is applicable per trip and per insured person. It is payable in Canadian dollars.
How to add a deductible
When selecting Emergency Medical Care coverage, click on the drop-down menu to add an optional deductible. Per default, all premiums shown on screen do not include a deductible.
Premiums are adjusted automatically on the Partner Space after having selected the deductible amount.
Emergency Medical Care in Canada
If your client plans on travelling exclusively within Canada, they can purchase Emergency Medical Care in Canada coverage. This version of the coverage includes the same benefits but is offered at a discounted price.
This version of the coverage is only offered when you select “Canada” as the trip destination at the “Trip” stage.
Leaving Canada during the period of coverage renders Emergency Medical Care in Canada coverage invalid in its entirety.

Limitations and exclusions
Emergency Medical Care coverage is subject to exclusions and limitations, including but not limited to:
- Unstable pre-existing medical conditions
- Foreseeable, non-urgent, experimental, or optional treatment
- Trips undertaken for medical purposes
- Illegal acts
- High-risk sports or activities
