Why travellers prefer Blue Cross

Planning your next family trip and wondering if you’re properly covered in case of accident or illness? You may have coverage through your group insurance or credit card… So, why would you need individual travel insurance? Together, let’s take a trip and find out how essential it is to purchase travel insurance for your next family vacation outside your province of residence.
The Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) website emphasizes the importance of purchasing private travel insurance before leaving your province of residence. Contrary to popular belief, RAMQ reimburses only a small part of emergency medical care costs received outside your province of residence. So, whether you’re planning a family weekend in Toronto or an all-inclusive trip to Mexico, travel insurance is an absolute necessity.
In terms of reimbursement, this is limited to CAN$100 per day for hospital expenses abroad. However, these costs can amount to several thousand dollars in some destinations, such as the United States. Take the example of a person who spends three days in the intensive care unit of a Florida hospital because of a serious health problem. According to the RAMQ website, hospital services would cost $25,000 in this case. Without travel insurance, the cost would be $24,700, or 99% of the total amount.
If you want to avoid unexpected bills and out-of-pocket expenses, Québec Blue Cross travel insurance provides access to one of the largest provider and healthcare facility networks in the United States, enabling direct payment to the provider whenever possible.
